Better Together

Love is the answer, at least for most of the questions in my heart
Like why are we here? And where do we go?
And how come it's so hard?
It's not always easy and
Sometimes life can be deceiving
I'll tell you one thing, it's always better when we're together

excerpt from Better Together by Jack Johnson

Better Together by Jack Johnson has been the life song for my wife and me. The song, as most things do when one goes through life experiences, has taken on new meaning as of late. Revisiting the song in recent days, I've thought of the importance of being together. The importance of family, friends, and community. Whatever, and whomever that community is for you.

On the one hand, I'm reminded to cherish the time with loved ones right now because tomorrow is never guaranteed. On the other, I see how being better together is so important, so necessary. For healing. For grieving. For listening. For food. For laughter.

There are moments when I'm alone with my thoughts; moments that can lead, and have led me to dark places. If not for the community of friends and family in my life, staying in that dark place would probably be most comfortable. Both, I believe, are part of the process, but we need the help of others to move forward.

But there is not enough time,
And there is no, no song I could sing
And there is no combination of words I could say
But I will still tell you one thing
We're better together
